Nashville, Brentwood, and Franklin Newborn Photographer
When it comes to newborn photography, safety is the first priority. The way I do things is based on keeping your baby safe and comfortable.
When do sessions take place?
Typically I photograph newborns between 5 and 10 days old. If breastfeeding, this allows time for the mother’s milk to come in to keep baby full longer. (This helps for a smoother session.) Baby is usually also still young enough to where they are able to be positioned in a variety of cuddly poses. Older babies are more awake and often don’t sleep as soundly as a 1 week old baby, which can lessen the variety of poses available.
If you are reading this and your baby is already past a week old, don’t fret. I regularly photograph older newborn sessions too for a variety of reasons. Maybe the time got away and scheduling photographs didn’t get done. Perhaps baby needed to stay in the NICU and newborn photos weren’t an option right after birth. Feel free to reach out to see if I can accommodate you into my schedule.
When is the ideal time to book a newborn session?
I photograph 4 babies per month, based on due dates. The reason for this is even if all 4 babies are born on the same day, I can still photograph them in a good time frame. With that said, as soon as you know you want me to photograph your baby, you should book. It’s best to complete your booking during pregnancy to ensure your spot on my calendar. I understand that a due date is only an estimate. So even if you are two weeks late, or two weeks early, I will make time for you.
Once your baby arrives, you or your partner can contact me and I will give you a few dates to choose from for your session.
Where are newborn sessions done and how long do they last?
You have two options for the location of your newborn session. Most clients prefer to have the session in their home. Sessions are typically 2-4 hours. (It just depends on your baby’s needs.) I have a space I can rent in Bellevue (37221) for sessions as well. I do find that for newborn sessions, new parents are more comfortable being in their home, and not having to “get out of the house.” It can be especially helpful with older siblings and being able to maintain their routines. You do not need to worry about the basket of laundry needing to be folded or the dirty dishes in the sink. None of that will show in your images! I typically travel to homes in Nashville, Brentwood, Franklin, Kingston Springs, Fairview, and Pegram. Homes outside my travel area, may have an additional travel fee.
